KANEHSATAKE: 270 YEARS OF RESISTANCE (1993)

In collaboration with Solidarity Across Borders (SAB), COTB will be screening Alanis Obomsawin's 1993 documentary about the 1990 Oka crisis, KANEHSATAKE: 270 YEARS OF RESISTANCE in Parc Jarry.

Director Alanis Obomsawin spent 78 nerve-wracking days and nights filming the armed stand-off between the Mohawks, the Quebec police and the Canadian military. We hope that this screening offers the opportunity for a collective reflection on the ties between decolonization, migrant justice struggles, and the environment.

The event will be free but we are encouraging donations to help raise funds for the Kanehsatake Annual Pow Wow on August 30th aand 31st. The event is a powerful moment of community that promotes indigenous culture and spirituality. Solidarity Across Borders has been invited to attend this year's pow-wow and is organizing a delegation for the 30th. We're organizing this screening to help raise funds for the collective's entrance and transportation costs.
