Picnic/Screening: THE FIVE OBSTRUCTIONS (2003)

Using a bike-powered-generator we will be screening Lars Von Trier's THE FIVE OBSTRUCTIONS and Jørgen Leth's THE PERFECT HUMAN. This evening will be hosted by Peter Weibrecht and Søren Rasmussen - Danish researchers visiting with the Senselab.

"The film is a novel but remarkably un-gimmicky experiment in filmmaking where Lars von Trier challenges his older mentor Jørgen Leth to remake Leth's 1968 short film, 'The Perfect Human.' Reminiscent of von Trier's Dogme rules, Leth must remake the original film five times, each instance with a new set of rules (or 'obstructions') from the tricky von Trier. The obstructions include, among others, that every shot should be 12 frames in length, that one version ahd to be filmed in the most miserable place in the world, and one version be animated. Not to be outfoxed, the gifted Leth produces a series of beautiful, funny and personally revealing gems of cinema."
