Join us on February 18th at 6:30 pm for a celebration of feminist and queer video work, and a conversation on embodied risk with Montreal-based artists!

Researchers of the Moving Image Research Lab, in collaboration with the pan-canadian research network Archive/Counter-Archive, invite you to the screening of “Desire Lines: Experimental Video as Social and Spatial Intervention,” a video-program of 12 works from the collection of the Montreal-based artist-run centre Groupe Intervention Vidéo (GIV). 

Founded in Montreal in 1975, Groupe Intervention Vidéo (GIV) is one of the few centers in the world dedicated to the preservation and promotion of media artworks by women (women is used here in the most inclusive sense of the term), distributing and disseminating them while actively supporting production. Anchored in an intersectional approach, GIV supports artists of different ages, backgrounds and communities, and the practice of media arts in its various forms and currents, both artistic and action-oriented.

The event at McGill will feature Dr. Axelle Demus on their work as the co-editor of the Educational Guides on Canadian counter-archives, Dr. Alanna Thain and Dr. Ylenia Olibet on their collaborative research on feminist media in Montreal, Verónica Sedano Alvarez and Daniela Paglione on the mandate of GIV, and a roundtable with artists kimura byol, kriss li, Dr. Dayna McLeod, Professor Michelle Smith on their feminist intersectional approach to videomaking.
