An exhibition of final projects created by EAST 305 / ARTH 353 Radical Japan class members. These projects span a vast array of media forms -- including video essay, cinepoetry, music video, experimental art cinema, dance, painting, photo-essay, children's literature, and so on -- exploring not only how issues of radical and activist politics and aesthetics relate to the study of Japan but also how they open out to resonate with other contexts and concerns. Following the Showcase, there will also be a screeningof the 2012 film _GFP BUNNY_ (タリウム少女の毒殺日記) by Tsuchiya Yutaka (A New God, Peep 'TV' Show), a disturbing, fascinating experiment in mixing documentary elements with fictional, based on a real-life poisoning incident that was documented online by the poisoner as it was happening. Engaged with issues of youth, violence, media worlding, and surveillance, this is a rare chance outside Japan to see this major work by one of the most exciting filmmakers in the world.
